Pilgrimage

Revered as a holy place for the Buddhists and Hindus, today’s Nepal is sacred for anyone wanting to delve deeper into the meaning of spiritual existence. The Himalayan peaks are the sacred abode of many gods and goddesses. The caves and valleys here are the sanctuaries of ancient yogis. Gautam Buddha was born in Nepal. A lesser known fact perhaps is that Nepal is the birthplace of three Buddhas, two of past eons – Krakuchhamda and Kanakamuni Buddha. Here, you can visit the birthplace of Gautam Buddha and other relevant spaces, including ones related to his past lives.

Followers of Vajrayana Buddhism consider Nepal the place of enlightenment of the tantric master, Padmasambhava. Nepal is dotted by many Beyuls – sacred hidden valleys and practice caves of past masters like Milarepa, and was frequented by ancient Maha-siddhas and yogis. The capital Kathmandu retains a remnant of ancient Indian Vajrayana, the Newari Buddhism, with the numerous and beautiful monasteries, temples and power spots. The Indian Emperor Ashoka also visited Kathmandu and built stupas here.
